Exclusively for visitors to the Consumer Electronics Show (CES, January 7 – 10, 2014) Mercedes-Benz is taking an unconventional approach to showing the new C-Class. An augmented reality app brings the car to life on the show stand, providing visitors with a digital preview of the vehicle prior to its world premiere at the Detroit Motor Show.

In 2010 the Mercedes-Benz CLS was the world's first series-production car to feature dynamic LED High Performance headlamps incorporating all the adaptive light functions of regular xenon systems. The new S-Class is the first series-production car ever to fully dispense with regular bulb sets and make use exclusively of energy-efficient LEDs. And the next step is now due to be made with Active Multibeam LED, which celebrates its premiere at Mercedes-Benz in the coming year.

As part of its "Intelligent Drive" strategy, Mercedes-Benz is all set to bring Car-to-X technology to our roads by the end of this year which will enable the exchange of information between individual vehicles as well as between vehicles and the traffic infrastructure. Through the use of Car-to-X communication, information on potential road traffic dangers can be passed on to drivers at an early stage so that they can take appropriate action and even help to avoid critical situations arising in the first place.

Mercedes-Benz is extending its multimedia presence with the simultaneous release of three new apps, providing an even more versatile range of products for people on the move. Two of the new apps – the B-Class Guide, a useful online supplement to the printed manual, and the SL Bodywork App personal trainer – are now available free of charge. Both come in two versions, for downloading to Android smart phones and iPhones®, respectively.

Mercedes-Benz presented the first fully integrated telematics system in the automotive industry in 1993, when the Communication and Navigation System (CNS) was premiered in the S-Class. A further ground-breaking innovation followed in 1996 in the guise of the LINGUATRONIC voice control system, which defines the standard to this day. The first 16:9 colour screen was unveiled by Mercedes-Benz in 2002. Internet access on-board Mercedes-Benz vehicles was introduced this year.

For a period of three years, Mercedes-Benz customers will in future receive the latest map updates for their COMAND APS multimedia system free of charge. Mercedes-Benz partners will upload map updates into the navigation system when the car is brought to their premises. Thanks to these new, free map updates, Mercedes drivers with COMAND APS will reach their destinations even more rapidly and reliably in future.

Mercedes-Benz’ fully Internet-based infotainment system, myCOMAND, has now passed its first on-road test. During the Nokia Siemens Networks Solutions Forum 2009 in Munich, myCOMAND was run for the first time on a 4G wireless high-speed LTE (Long Term Evolution) network. Driving the S-Class prototype on normal roads produced a shining outcome: all myCOMAND features prove smooth and enhanced performance, with high resolution and improved quality.
